24/08/2010 - Gender-bender chemicals causing early puberty in girls

(NaturalNews) "Endocrine disrupting" chemicals that mimic or interfere with the body's natural sex hormones are partially responsible for early puberty in girls, according to a study conducted by researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

"Research has shown that early pubertal development in girls can have adverse social and medical effects, including cancer and diabetes later in life," researcher Mary Wolff said. "Our research shows a connection between chemicals that girls are exposed to on a daily basis and either delayed or early development."

21/06/2010 - Are You Slowly Killing Your Family with Hidden Dioxane in Your Laundry Detergent?

When most people think of pollution, they think of the outdoors -- garbage-choked streams or industrial waste. But you probably spend a large portion of your time indoors -- as much as 80 to 90 percent of your life. You work, study, eat, drink and sleep in enclosed environments where air circulation may be restricted.

The typical American home contains 3-10 GALLONS of toxic materials -- everything from glass and bathroom cleaners to garden pesticides and fertilizers.

Health effects of ingredients in common household products include:

  • Respiratory problems
  • Eye irritation
  • Cancer
  • Disruption of the endocrine system

As a result of cleaners and other toxic household products, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that the air inside the typical home is 2-5 times more polluted than the air immediately outside -- and in extreme cases, 100 times more contaminated.

21/06/2010 - Girls Now Begin Puberty at Age 9

More and more girls are reaching puberty before the age of 10. The phenomenon could be linked to obesity or exposure to chemicals in the food chain.  It is putting girls at greater long-term risk of breast cancer.

A study has revealed that breast development now typically starts at an average age of 9 years and 10 months -- an entire year earlier than what a similar study found in 1991.

18/05/2010 - No Silver Lining about BPA in Cans

Today, a report was released revealing new information about the amount of bisphenol-A (BPA) in our food products. Researchers collected 50 food and beverage containers from several states and Ontario, Canada. The cans contained a wide variety of products, and were sent to a laboratory to be tested for BPA levels.

BPA is the ubiquitous chemical that is in hard plastics, can liners, register receipts and baby products and is known to cause health effects including impaired brain and reproductive development in unborn babies, miscarriage in pregnant women, diabetes, obesity and cancer.

BPA was detected in 92% of the canned food samples, and was not predictable by any reasonable means.

25/02/2010 - Study: Chemicals Found in Common Plastics may be “Feminizing” to Boys

Lead researchers from a University of Rochester study presented a disturbing study that found that chemicals in many common household plastics may be altering male hormones in the brains of baby boys. This represents more evidence directly linking chemicals in plastics to harmful effects in humans.

Published recently in the International Journal of Andrology, the report is a clear indication of the dangers of a plastic chemical additive, called phthalates. These additives are commonly added to vinyl flooring, PVC shower curtains and many other every-day products.

19/12/2009 - Six Risky Chemicals You're Carrying in your Body

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released its latest assessment of the chemicals people are carrying around in their bodies. The biomonitoring study is the most comprehensive in the world, measuring 212 chemicals in the blood and urine of 8,000 Americans.

The CDC highlighted a few chemicals because they are both widespread -- found in all or most people tested -- and potentially harmful. Here's a look at what they are and how you can try to avoid them:

07/12/2009 - The “clean smell” in your home may be killing you.

Your home and your clothes may have a “clean smell” like lemons or pine. These synthetic fragrances found in laundry and cleaning products including laundry detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets as well as in “air fresheners” emit dozens of different chemicals.

A recent study found that a plug-in air freshener emitted 20 different volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which included seven compounds regulated as toxic or hazardous under U.S. federal laws yet the label simply lists “fragrance”. Beware of products that list “fragrance” on the label as many terrible chemicals come under this “catch all” word.  Most “fragrances” are manufactured from oil and their health effects on humans when inhaled have often never been studied. 18/11/2009 - Pregnant moms are exposed to toxic chemicals

The Washington Toxics Coalition yesterday released a study which is being called the first of its kind. The project tested nine pregnant women from Washington, Oregon and California for levels of toxic chemicals in their bodies, and thus being exposed to their fetuses. This study was completed in collaboration with Commonweal Biomonitoring Resource Center and the Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition.

The women were tested in their second trimester of pregnancy. Every woman tested was found to have levels of bisphenol A, mercury, phthalates, and perfluorinated -- or "Teflon" -- chemicals in their blood. The chemical levels are alarming because the chemicals tested are known to impair brain development, disrupt hormone levels, cause reproductive issues, and lead to cancer.

22/09/2009 - Supposedly 'Safe' Lead Levels Harm Children

Young children's exposure to lead in the environment is harming their intellectual and emotional development. What’s more, the toxic effects of lead on the central nervous system are obvious even below the current so-called safe level of lead in the blood. They are recommending the threshold should be halved. The study set out to see if there was any effect on the behavior and intellectual development of children who had ingested just below the UK’s so-called safe level of 10 micrograms per deciliter of blood. Lead levels between five and 10 micrograms per deciliter were associated with significantly poorer scores for reading ( 49 percent lower) and writing (51 percent lower). Aluminum and Breast Cancer

We live in a world where the products that we use on a daily basis are actually laden with some of the most toxic chemicals on the planet.

This is an English translation of the article published in French by WordPress : « Autisme, schizophrénie et hyperactivité- Phosphates dans l’alimentation : les enfants poussés au bord de la folie »  Mondialisation.ca, 1 fevrier 2008 Word Press.

Since twenty years ago, the hyperactivity, schizophrenia and autism cases are dramatically raising in developed countries. Scientists from the entire world are studying this problem. All of them agree in the link between the gluten and casein allergies and toxic metals.

In only ten years the number of autism in USA has been multiplied by three. There’s really an “epidemy” of autism that is expanding to the other side of the Atlantic. In Maryland, for example, the official stats show an increasing of 500% of new cases since 1998.
